The Hamilton Academy of Medicine

For more than 160 years, the Hamilton Academy of Medicine (HAM) has been bringing physicians together to advance medicine, strengthen professional relationships and improve healthcare in our community. Founded in 1863 as the Hamilton Medical and Surgical Society and incorporated as the Hamilton Academy of Medicine in 1932, the Academy has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of physicians while remaining grounded in its enduring purpose: education, fellowship and collaboration.

Today, HAM is the professional association representing physicians across the Greater Hamilton Area and the largest branch society of the Ontario Medical Association. As an independent, member-driven organization, we provide education, advocacy, leadership opportunities and professional connection to support physicians at every stage of their careers and strengthen the local healthcare system.

Guided by our 2024–2027 Strategic Plan, HAM is focused on building a stronger and more connected medical community through four strategic priorities:
